Frater Ricardo P. Deveaux, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.:
The Nassau, Bahamas Council of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. inducted Frater Ricardo P. Deveaux as its First Recipient (2004) into The Bahamas Greek Hall of Fame.
The Bahamas Greek Hall of Fame was established to recognize outstanding members of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council Movement who made outstanding contribution to the fraternal movement - locally and internationally.
Frater Deveaux is the Charter President of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council (1994-1998), the first international council chartered by the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC), former Assistant Regional Director, NPHC Southern Region (1998-99) and former National First Vice-President, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc.
Frater Deveaux made history in the NPHC movement by becoming the first international council member and one of the youngest members to be elected to the Office of National First Vice-President. He served in that office from 1999-2003. In February 2000, The NPHC National Board of Directors held its Winter Board of Directors meeting in Nassau, Bahamas. It was the organization's historic meeting, as it was the first meeting held outside the United States of America. National Vice-President Frater Deveaux and the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council played hosted to the National Board of Directors.
In October 2003, Frater Ricardo made an unsuccessful bid to become the 32nd National President, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc.
At the Local NPHC Council level, Frater Deveaux was instrumental in the chartering of the Nassau, Bahamas Pan-Hellenic Council in February 1995. He was awarded the title of: Distinguished Charter Council President. The Council was the first international council to be chartered by the NPHC. During his presidency, The Council held a National Fraternal Celebration at The Ballroom at Government House with Governor-General Sir Orville Turnquest in attendance. He was also instrumental in the establishment of The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Awards Program, a premier national awards recognition program for 6th grade students in The Bahamas. He currently serves as President & CEO, The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation. Under his leadership, the Foundation has presented over $800,000.00 in scholarships and prizes and recognized over 1,500 students from throughout The Bahamas.
Frater Deveaux was initiated into the Delta Beta Chapter at Bethune-Cookman University on March 9th, 1988 and is a Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. During his undergraduate years, he served as Secretary and Assistant Dean of Pledgees of the Delta Beta Chapter. He served as President of the Iota Epsilon Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. from 2000 - 2003. During his administration, the chapter experienced the highest financial membership roll up to that date and held the only the second membership intake (the first was in 1990). In October 2002, On behalf of the Iota Epsilon Lambda Chapter he petitioned The Florida Federation of Alpha Chapters, including The Bahamas and The US Virgin Islands to create The Bahamas as a separate Area. At the District Convention, it was approved and he was appointed as the first Bahamas Area Director. In December 2004, he was appointed by Darryl Matthews, Sr. - 32nd International President of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. as Chairman, International Brothers Affairs. He became the first Bahamian to serve on the fraternity’s international leadership team.
Frater Deveaux is married to Pamela Deveaux and they are the proud parents of two daughters: Richea Juanita and Paige Aaliyah Deveaux. He is the eldest son of Edward & Beverly Deveaux. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with Honours from Bethune-Cookman University; Master of Science Degrees in Human Services and Human Resource Management from Nova Southeastern University and a Certificate in Public Administration from Peking University, China. In May 2009, he delivered the coveted Spring Commencement Address at Bethune-Cookman University and was awarded an Honourary Doctorate of Humane Letters. He was only the second Bahamian and one of the youngest Commencement Speakers in recent years.
He has been employed with the Bahamas Government since September 1992 and is currently stationed at the Ministry of Education as a Deputy Permanent Secretary.
